10 days of enduro in Upper Mustang, Nepal

A solid intermediate level is enough. Technically, you need to be comfortable on natural mountain singletrack and able to link a long descent without tensing up: these are raw trails, not a bike park. Physically, the challenge is stringing together 7 riding days at altitude rather than the climbing, because the private shuttle takes the group back up. If you ride enduro regularly at home, you belong here. If you are unsure, call us: we would rather be honest before you book.

CHF 5,400 per person. Everything on the ground is covered: domestic flights, permits, accommodation, meals in the mountains, shuttle, guides and transfers. International flights, insurance, your visa and your bike are not included. A booking is confirmed with a 30% deposit, with the balance due before departure.

Most riders bring their own bike and that is what we recommend: over 7 days of riding you are always better off on your own machine, set up the way you like it. A full-suspension enduro bike with 150 to 170 mm of travel is the right tool. If you would rather travel light, tell us when you book and we will arrange a rental with the Nepali team.

That is not how this trip is set up: charging is unreliable in high-valley lodges and range at altitude is hard to guarantee. That is exactly why the private shuttle is part of the package. Talk to us if it matters to you and we will see what is possible.

Mustang is a high valley: we start in Jomsom at around 2,700 m and move higher into the old kingdom of Lo, whose capital Lo Manthang sits at roughly 3,800 m. The route is built to gain altitude gradually, and the first two days in Nepal serve that purpose too. Your guide watches the group daily and the pace adapts: drink plenty, eat well, never push through. No high-altitude experience is required, but tell us about any medical history.

It is the best window of the year. After the monsoon the sky clears, the air turns crisp and the trails are dry. Mustang, sheltered behind the Annapurnas, is also one of the driest regions in Nepal. Our departure runs from 5 to 14 November 2026.

Upper Mustang is a restricted area: you can only enter with a special permit, a guide and a registered Nepali agency, and with a minimum of two travellers. We handle all of it, and both the Upper Mustang permit and the ACAP permit for the Annapurna Conservation Area are included in the price. All you need to send us is a copy of your passport and passport photos.

Lower Mustang, around Jomsom and Kagbeni, is open without a special permit and easy to visit. Upper Mustang, further north, is the old kingdom of Lo: closed to foreigners until 1992, still permit-controlled, with ochre cliffs, cave dwellings and an intact Tibetan culture. That is where we ride, and it changes everything.

A support vehicle follows the group with the bags, so you ride light with just your day pack. If you break something or run out of steam, the shuttle is right there. Your Bikeverbier guide and the local team handle logistics, lodging and meals from the first day to the last.

Travel insurance that explicitly covers mountain biking and helicopter evacuation at altitude is mandatory. It is the one line in the file we will not bend on: in Mustang, an evacuation happens by helicopter and is very expensive without cover. We will tell you exactly what to check in your policy.

3 spots. That is deliberate: a small group rides at its own pace, stops when the light is good and never wastes an hour regrouping. You are not a booking reference in a departure of twenty.
